She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – Episode 6 Review

By Ben Wright (@iamzavagno | www.xgeeks.co.uk)

This review is spoiler-free.

Jen goes to a wedding! And with a fourth wall break suggested at the top of the episode, suggesting this is a self-contained outing for She-Hulk, it begged the question, with only three episodes remaining, what is the main story arc of the series?

As for the episode itself. It was fine! There were some great observational comedy moments in regard to the politics of a wedding and how crazy these days can be. Tatiana Maslany (Jennifer/She-Hulk) is always great to watch. Her performance was incredible, as we have come to expect, and getting to see drunk Jen in all her glory was an absolute blast. I also enjoyed aspects of the sub-plot with Ginger Gonzaga (Nikki) and Renee Elise Goldsberry (Amelia) in which they highlighted toxic online culture, shining a particular light on incel traits as well. This was handled in a serious tone, as it should be, so it became a stand-out moment within the episode which was primarily focused on comedy.

Overall, this was the weakest episode of the six so far, but it still had its enjoyable moments. I think at this stage of the series, the man story needs to be taking priority, but so far, it’s all been hints and small visuals to suggest what the bigger picture is. I also feel that this week’s law-based story was a little weak and more of an afterthought, as previously there have been some connections to the other arc in the episode. That disconnect was very noticeable in this episode, however, David Pasquesi (Mr Immortal) was rather very charming and a fun ‘supe-of-the week’ character to have on the show.

I think with how the episode ended; we should expect to see a more focused narrative approach going into this final batch of three episodes. We had THAT teaser last week, which came to nothing here, so given the teaser at the end of the episode, this is something that they need to pull the trigger on sooner rather than later.
