Star Wars: Andor Episode 11: Daughter of Ferrix Review

This review is spoiler-free.

After last week’s adrenaline-fuelled episode, this week saw a change of pace, but with storytelling and performances that were just as exciting and dramatic!

While the prison break was a huge deal, Cassian isn’t out of the woods just yet! We follow Cassian and Melshi throughout their journey on the planet, and I for one am finally happy that Melshi got much more screentime and dialogue! They meet two Narkinians – who I can only assume are based on old-timey Cornish fishermen, and this was a fun scene. They eventually make it back to the resort, and somehow his money and gun are right where he left them! The cleaners need sacking! This gives Andor a platform and financial backing for him to make his next move.

On Ferrix, a heartbreaking scene involving B2EMO will tear at your very soul, and the music throughout this scene just brought tears to my eyes. I mean, I get that I am a very emotional watcher of media, but I completely got lots in the scene and I just could not hold back the tears. The music, the framing, everything was just so moving and beautiful. We also got introduced to a specific Ferrix custom, which I also thought was a really interesting concept. We also got to see Bix, post-torture and it was interesting how they presented her PTSD – Adria Arjona absolutely killed it in this scene!

On Coruscant, Vel learns about Mon’s plan for her daughter and the problems she has keeping anonymous in her role in helping to found the Rebellion. I loved the aesthetic of this scene – the hushed dialogue, the sound of rain hitting the window… it was so atmospheric and perfect! Genevieve O’Reilly was the Andy Serkis of this episode! With Syril, he has a brief reunion with Mosk – I really like Alex Ferns, he’s fun – and this sets off an interesting chain of events for Syril.

We also got another reunion with Saw and his crew, which I always welcome. This was a big moment for him, it certainly pushed him further down the road that we see in a few years’ time. Whitaker is so good! Plus, Saw is much more than just a Rogue One character to me. I have so much history with from The Clone Wars, Rebels and Jedi Fallen Order. His line of “Let’s call it war” was so incredibly layered, and once again just highlights the incredible writing on this series.

And finally, we got an OUTSTANDING space scene with Luthen, and you can bet I watched it more than a few times! I really love Luthen’s ship! This felt like a scene from Star Wars: Rebels!
B2EMO already had my heart, but in this episode, he broke it. Star Wars keep introducing new droids and each one goes right into my Top 10! With so much focus on the prison last week, it felt right to jump around again between the other characters and storylines. I loved the time spent on Ferrix, it is becoming such a staple location in the series and I hope that continues going forwards.

With the Series One finale next week, it seems a lot of our characters are converging onto the same location so the chess pieces on the board are ready to all make their move! It’s no stranger that I am going to miss doing these reviews week-to-week, as they are so easy to write when the product I am writing about is this good! We’ve now got a week to prepare ourselves for what I imagine is going to be one heck of a series finale!
