The time has finally come… it is the Series One finale of the INCREDIBLE Star Wars: Andor!
Everyone has arrived on Ferrix! Andor, Syril, Dedra, Luthen and Vel have all converged, as indicated in last week’s episode. Andor is there for the funeral, and everyone else is there for Andor! I think bookending the series at Ferrix was an intelligent move.
Andor finally begins to listen and understand Nemik’s manifesto and it was great to hear passages from it, especially when coupled with the outstanding score of the episode. The main focus of the episode was Maarva’s funeral, and I employ you to take it all in without having your phone in your hand or any other distractions. Drink it all in, and feel the raw emotion and sparks fly from your screen. Listen and watch every element – this was such a monumental moment in the series and one I will forever think of going forwards. The Ferrix arc ends with plenty of wiggle room for more, should they need it, and we are left with a number of characters now aligned in their goals.
On Coruscant, the ISB continue to circle around Mon, who is having her own family issues. There were a lot of setups here for so much potential fallout and this will be yet again another interesting story to follow into Series Two.
Oh, and make sure you stay until after the credits!
It wasn’t an action-packed finale, but then again it never had to be! The incredible funeral scene and the tension throughout the episode were perfect. Cassian ends the series in a fantastic position to truly begin his journey inside the Rebellion, and the second series cannot come soon enough! Doubters said filming straight into the second series was a risk, in case the show failed, but it’s obvious that they knew they had one of the greatest Star Wars properties on their hands so it was never a risk!
As for the series as a whole, I have loved every second of it. It has been so unique and so grounded. I hope the success of this show lights the spark for future projects away from Sith and Jedi so that we have so much choice and variety of what Star Wars we have available to us. The cast was fantastic, as was the writing and every element of the production – and I truly cannot wait to see them build on this outstanding first series.
Andor has been such an easy series to review, as my passion for Star Wars does most of the work, however, when a show is this good, it’s like I don’t even need to try! I love this series so much and I am already counting down the days until its return.
