The Bad Batch – Season 2: Episodes 1 & 2 Review

I, for one, am pleased that The Bad Batch has returned, as I always feel that I am missing out if I haven’t got some Star Wars animation to watch!

I was impressed and enjoyed the first season, however, I did recognise some flaws – especially regarding story progression or the lack of it. In this double-bill release of Season 2, I already have renewed confidence that the teething issues of that first season have been addressed and we are set for a very enjoyable few months!

The double-episode drop basically splits one arc, and I think that having them together works better than if they had just released the first episode – it needed that continuation. As for the story across both episodes, it was highly enjoyable and was really engaging and exciting. All our characters got their moments to shine and there were plenty of hints towards the future of the season. Omega is once again presented in such a compelling way and her journey and growth continue to be one of the most exciting and interesting elements of The Bad Batch.

The animation style is the same, so there is a nice consistency there. However, I do think they have improved with some of the lighting and shadows, as it looks extremely realistic. The music was also very well composed and utilised during both of the episodes – I have always been impressed with the flavour and scale of the music used within The Bad Batch.

I feel this was a very strong return for the show, and I believe dropping the two episodes was also a smart move in regard to the story and how they connect, as well as allowing a clear indication of the direction of the show going forward – which seems to appear more focused, rather than heist after heist, the format that grew a little tiresome last time around.

The Bad Batch returns with a strong double-episode opener, with every indication that the show is set for a very strong second season.
