The Bad Batch – Season 2: Episode 3 Review

This review is spoiler-free.

After last week’s two-parter Series 2 opener, we return to The Bad Batch but with a bit of a twist!

The Solitary Clone” was an apt title for the episode, as it focussed fully on Crosshair, who we haven’t seen since the Series 1 finale. It was interesting to see what has transpired since then and where his current mindset is. He is stationed with a new unit, lead by a VERY familiar Clone, which was also great to see him being involved again. I also really liked what they did with the character and what that could mean for the future, both as a character and for the story as well. I was really fascinated with what they did with Crosshair last series, so I am very much excited to see them build upon that and to see what direction we take with him.

This felt like a much more mature episode in tone, and it was more akin to a storyline you’d see in The Mandalorian or even The Clone Wars when they really went hard with their subject matter. This darker story element was reflected in the visuals of the episode. This was a dark episode in every sense, and I loved how the story and visuals complemented each other in this way.

As for the cast, there were a few familiar Star Wars voices in the episode, including Tasia Valenza, who voiced Jedi Master Shaak Ti in The Clone Wars, plays Governor Ames and Shelby Young, various Star Wars credits including Leia, who voiced a Tactical Droid – so this was a nice touch!

Overall, this was a really fascinating and enjoyable episode. I like when Star Wars goes a little dark, especially when it has a political edge. I would go as far as to say that there were definitely a few sprinkles on Andor here, and that is always going to end with positive results.
