After last week’s incredible political two-parter, we return to The Bad Batch who are once again running an errand off-world for Cid.
In this episode, we focus on Omega and the fallout from losing Echo, who last week joined Rex as part of the Clone rescue efforts. Echo’s loss is felt throughout the team and even begins to impact the mission – with the Batch standard on a hazardous planet after the Marauder is stolen. Not enough bodies to carry out the mission!
After an interesting adaption from a scene in The Lion King, the Batch wind up trapped inside an Ipsium-filled cave system. Omega and Tech’s relationship is explored further, with the contrasting personalities of emotion and logic at odds with one another. When two personalities are so far apart, it can be difficult to see a resolution. But it’s all about finding common ground, and events and situations transpire that look to push them back together again. Now, I’m not saying that this is the case or it is what was intended, but I found Tech’s words about how he processes things as a commentary on Autism. The parallels between processing things and interactions with people, even those closest to him are extremely striking.
The episode actually ends with a ‘part one’ feel, it’s just that we don’t have the second episode immediately on hand to watch the conclusion. The episode just ending, initially, felt a little out of nowhere, but with the visuals and the music, it was a good place to end it and it makes sense.
This was an episode about healing and loss, relationships and family, with the Batch having to adjust to the new status quo. I really enjoyed the themes and character threads in the episode and I feel there are so many unanswered questions that I am already eagerly anticipating next week’s episode for the resolution of these elements.
