After last week’s beautiful, but disastrous, episode, we are straight back into the thick of things this week!
The opening of the episode was easily one of the best we’ve seen in The Bad Batch and was the type of peak excitement levels that we saw in The Clone Wars, so I always felt like this was going to be a great episode – and that proved to be the case!
We start with a daring prison break by Rex and Echo. Rex’s team now has Gregor on board too, which is great for the connections we have in Star Wars Rebels. We are also reintroduced to Captain Howzer, who quickly became a fan favourite after his introduction in Season One. We also learn that a certain Senator is helping the Clones through Rex’s underground network – just as they promised they would earlier in the season!
The amazing Jimmi Simpson is back as Dr. Hemlock, and I’m really enjoying what they are doing with his character and the story in terms of the Imperial side of things in general. While the episode was missing The Batch for a good half of the episode, it was another episode for Crosshair to continue his journey and explore things, like I mentioned, from the Empire’s perspective, this helps fill in those story gaps and keeps the overarching story going throughout the series. I am also very interested to see the development of Emerie Karr (Keisha Castle-Hughes) who looks set to be positioned in a very interesting place in the near future!
Back on the beautiful island of Pabu, The Batch continues to help the refugees rebuild after the devasting tsunami. A reunion Echo led to a great exchange with The Batch, most importantly Omega, with the pair sharing a touching scene. This moment put a huge smile on my face as the family is once again, albeit temporarily, reunited. Tech is able to decipher some of the stolen messages and uncovers Crosshair’s message in the process. After some significant revelations, The Batch has a big decision to make about their next objective, and by all accounts, if they proceed how I think they will, it won’t be easy…
This was easily one of the best episodes of the series so far and contained so much in terms of story and character development. The pacing was fantastic and, as always, it looked and sounded incredible! The Bad Batch continues to go from strength to strength.
