After last week’s tantalising ending, the episode picks right up where we left off – but, for me, the reveal wasn’t that shocking. In fact, it was exactly what I expected. So, I would temper your expectations a little. I am not saying that it was not enjoyable, it was just predictable. But this was only the beginning, and any disappointment was soon erased…
Overall, this episode is, probably, my favourite of the series so far! There was so much happening, and you felt the momentum of the story and characters progress and increase in intensity as events unfolded. The tension and drama continued to build, and the pacing of the different narratives was incredibly executed. Some outstanding individual character moments will most definitely start a few conversations! There were more than a few obvious and not-so-obvious references to Jurassic Park in this episode, and the parallels were really entertaining. As for the ending? That is how you do a cliffhanger! It was an incredibly intense moment and the extra linger of the ‘fade to black’ at the end added even more significant impact to the scene.
As for the characters, Miss Minutes’ (Tara Strong) psychosis comes to the forefront in a way that I could never imagine. It was both subtle and horrifying, and nothing was subtle about the scene in question! Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) also had another strong outing and, while only a minor role, Judge Gamble (Liz Car) had a great moment with B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) that is worthy of special mention! Once again, be it individually or collectively, this cast delivers!
Whilst Loki has always been a visually creative show, there were some beautiful shot choices and production techniques used in this fourth episode that really got my attention! The use of camera work and lighting especially, are two key ingredients in this episode’s success.
Next week is the penultimate episode of Loki Series 2! I cannot believe we are already here. And I would be lying if I said I wasn’t dissatisfied with the six-episode run. I suppose when the show is this good, it’s only natural to want more!
