Loki Season 2 -Episode 5: Science/Fiction

This review is spoiler-free.

It’s the penultimate episode of Loki Season 2, and after last week’s incredibly shocking cliffhanger, I think I speak for most fans of the show when I say that the excitement and anticipation for the next instalment has been building all week!

They pick up the story immediately from last week and spend no time in setting up the “end game” for the series. There are plenty of well-executed twists and turns along the way, and the story continues to build with wonderful pacing. Mixed in amongst the drama elements, there remains a consistent inclusion of the subtle comedy beats that we have come to expect. There were some genuinely humorous moments in the episode, and they complimented the drama and emotional notes wonderfully – there was never any contrast. I feel this has been the most Loki-focused episode this season. They take time to stop and reflect, illuminating Loki’s incredible character development in the process! As for the ending? It left me with chills. The finale has been set up perfectly!

The performances within are once again, just as impressive as the writing. We get more bonding between Loki and Mobius, which is always a good thing! I am also thrilled that, after five episodes, Ke Huy Quan (OB) is still a major part of the story. My biggest concern, from the first episode, was that Quan was going to be a cameo or supporting character. So, to have him so extensively involved in the main narrative is a massive benefit to the show! His infectious energy just gives the series an extra edge.

As for how Loki Season 2 is going to end? There are so many possible outcomes, that it is difficult to predict! But with the quality of the writing and performances having been this consistent throughout the season, I am confident that they will make great success of the ending!
