Blood of Zeus (Season 2) Review

This review is spoiler-free.

It’s been four years since Blood of Zeus premiered its first season, and after much anticipation, the long-awaited second season has finally arrived – and it certainly lives up to expectations!

Season 2 of Son of Zeus elevates the series to new heights, expanding upon its rich mythos while also streamlining certain subplots to enhance the overall storytelling. With multiple impactful story arcs, it delves deeper into character complexities and growth, building upon the groundwork in the first season. As part of a larger 5-series arc, there’s a hope that the show continues to captivate its audience to see the full narrative unfold.

Returning cast members Derek Phillips (Heron), Elias Toufexis (Seraphim), and Jessica Henwick (Alexia) deliver exceptional performances. Newcomer Lara Pulver (Persephone) shines bright in her supporting role, alongside the returning Fred Tatasciore (Hades), who significantly contributes to the show’s monumental rise. This is Hades like you’ve never seen him before… The only disappointment was I could have used Claudia Christian (Hera) a little more, she was outstanding in the first season. But, when she did appear on screen, she was captivating.

The animation, courtesy of Powerhouse Animation (known for works like Castlevania and Skull Island), maintains its top-notch quality, with Season 2 pushing boundaries with its vibrant colouring and shading, enhancing the overall aesthetic established in the first season.

If you enjoyed the first season, then Season 2 of Blood of Zeus will blow you away! Whilst I was excited for the show’s return, I never imagined the return would be so triumphant. As for THAT ending? Oh boy, do we need a Season 3 and quickly! I don’t think I can wait another four years…
