Hopefully if you’re reading this you have already seen Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and even better, you read our review!
While there are many nods and winks to the hardcore Star Wars fans (blue milk), we have decided to pick out our favourites from the movie.
So, lets get started!
Jyn Erso accidentally bumps in to two characters you may recognise from the Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope. Ponda Baba and Dr Cornelius Evazan are seen in a very short scene with Jyn on Jedah. Baba and Evazan pick a fight with Luke Skywalker in the Cantina, before Obi-Wan breaks up the fight, chopping off Baba’s arm.
Both Red and Gold Squadrons appear in the battle over Scarif, including inserted stock footage composition shots of Red and Gold leader from A New Hope.
One member of Red Squadren is killed in the battle, this was Red Five, the callsign that Luke Skywalker takes up in A New Hope. Now we know why it was available…
There are also a number of Star Wars: Rebels Easter eggs hidden away in Rogue One.
On Yavin 4 as Jyn leaves the council meeting, a tannoy announcement in the background asks for ‘General Syndulla’. This COULD be Hera Syndulla or her father Cham Syndulla.
In a real blink and you’ll miss it moment, Chopper, the spunky droid can be see rolling past on screen. This again would make sense given the ‘General Syndulla’ link.
When the rebels attack the Shied Gate over Scarif, we briefly see a Corellian VCX-100 freighter. This COULD be The Ghost, the main ship in Star Wars: Rebels. This apparent Easter egg links back to the ‘General Syndulla’ tannoy announcement we have already mentioned. Could Hera be flying the ship in to battle with the remaining crew from the show? The ship also is visible before the battle on Yavin 4 in the background.
After a Star Drestroyer is disabled by iron cannon blasts, we see a Hammerhead Corvette ship ram the immobilised Destroyer. In Star Wars: Rebels Season 2, Princess Leia allows the crew of the Ghost to steal a few of these ships. The colouring matches the ones from the show.
