Ms. Marvel – Episode Four: Seeing Red Review

This review is spoiler-free.

This week, Ms. Marvel goes international!

I think taking Kamala out of the US was a smart move for the show as it not only opens up the world more but also allows us to explore even more of the cultural notes that the show has delivered week in, week out. We have a great mix of new characters and exciting locations, and it feels like we’ll be sticking around for at least a few more episodes, which I am more than here for!

The MVP, in terms of the cast, this week was Zenobia Shroff (Muneeba), who put in a truly incredible emotional performance, and it was really great to see the relationship with her own mother and how that mirrors her relationship with her Kamala. These parallels and connections were worked into the story really well and it was the heartbeat of the episode – which I think is a testament to the quality of the writing and performances, not only in this episode but every episode so far.

In terms of the action, we are treated to an imaginative and intense chase scene through the city, which is something I wasn’t expecting from this show, so it was a very welcome surprise! There were also some nice little fight scenes that were really well worked, especially when you consider some of the limitations. Kamala’s powers and her execution and handling of them continue to increase episode to episode, so by the time we reach the series finale I think she will be in a really strong position heading into The Marvels.

Once again, the music plays an important role within the episode and there is one scene in particular that sees the show go acoustic that I really loved and hope that it appears on a platform like Spotify in the near future, because it was SO my jam it’s not even funny!

We are now four episodes in, and I feel we have a really good idea of who our characters are and what the story is shaping up to be, but this is far from predictable. Each week is a fresh approach, and everything is just building in a really positive way that just hooks you and instills that desire to watch the next episode. Wednesdays just can’t come quick enough!

Ms. Marvel continues to go from strength to strength and the international flavour this week just amplifies that, and when you add in some truly incredible character performances, it just takes the show to a whole different level!
