She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – Episode 4 Review

By Ben Wright (@iamzavagno | www.xgeeks.co.uk)

This review is spoiler-free.

I think it is safe to say that here at X-Geeks, we are very pro-She-Hulk, so when I say that this episode is “Finally what I wanted to see”, that is not a slight on the previous three episodes – as our reviews have all been very positive – but I was just very excited to finally see a “fun lawyer show” focused episode that Jennifer Walters promised in the first episode!

Wong (Benedict Wong) returns to take on Donny Blaze (Rhys Coiro), a magician who has turned to the mystic arts to help boost his failing act but requires the legal expertise of Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany). This story was the main plot and was the focal point in all three acts. It gave me everything I wanted to see from a ‘Superhero lawyer show’. I know we had the parole hearing elements with Emil previously, but this week we get to see both Jennifer and She-Hulk become part of the same law-centric story. The secondary plot focuses on Jennifer’s love life and the world of app dating. This entire sub-plot was perfectly written and executed and if anything, it just filled me with the utmost dread and fear – so the storytelling worked!

A lot has been said about the VFX on She-Hulk, but I don’t think there was an issue in this episode, and this week there is more than She-Hulk that is brought to life – so I think they did a very good job, all things considered.

Finally, I big shout out to Patty Guggenheim who played Madisynn. She was perfect in her role and her interactions with Wong made for so many great, and genuine, laugh-out-loud moments. Oh, and if you have never seen The Sopranos, but are considering it, you may need to skip the majority of her scenes!

The latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law gave me everything I wanted, and the strength of the writing and performances once again is INCREDIBLE!
