The Boys: Season 2, Episode 7 (Review)

This review contains spoilers.

In the penultimate episode of season 2, Billy and the rest of The Boys put together their case against Vought. There are highs and lows with this. As quick as they think they have the upper hand they lose it and perhaps it’s time to just accept that Homelander and his dysfunctional gang might just always win!

Homelander and Stormfront continue to build their empire as they head out to the streets to recruit more supes. There’s a scene at the beginning of the episode which was shockingly great, proving their skills in converting members of the public to their extremist views. As their relationship progresses, Homelander decides to introduce Stormfront to Ryan and it’s not long before he too is caught up in the razzle-dazzle of the superhero life. I absolutely detest Stormfront and that just goes to show what a fantastic job Aya Cash has done with her.

As their recruitment drive takes shape another member of The Seven is cast out. This time it’s Starlight as she is outed as the mole responsible for the CompoundV leak. All the while there are huge amounts of crazy going on around them, Hughie and Starlight’s story is almost straight out of a teen rom-com and I love it. Hughie brings about the highlight of the week for me when he’s left watching some very questionable porn with Lamplighter. That’s a bonding experience nobody needs to have and what’s worse is that it’s all for nothing.

Some subplots this week see Billy experience yet more drama in his personal life. There’s also a little twist in the church that The Deep has joined. While he’s blind to the manipulation around him, A-Train is suspicious. Kimiko begins to open up which makes Frenchie happy and in turn, that makes me happy.

We’ve come to expect complete mayhem from the last 10 minutes of each episode now and this is no different. It’s mind-blowing. Literally. Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker really did contain everything we’ve come to love about this show. Humour, violence, heart and some big WTF moments. I just have no idea what to expect from the season finale. No idea where this is going but I’m super excited for what’s sure to be an explosive ending.
