WandaVision – Episode 4 Review

By Robert Ernest (@thatRobster | www.xgeeks.co.uk)

This review contains spoilers.

Firstly let’s just get it out the way …. THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Episode 4 takes us away from Wanda and Vision’s sitcom and instead fills in gaps, answering a lot of the questions we had building up and will leave you giddy with excitement.

The opening scene. Wow! I practically screamed when Geraldine’s true identity is revealed as Monica Rambeau due to her reappearance after ‘the blip’. We know this show links in with the MCU obviously, but it’s almost magical having these little moments confirming it. Thinking about what the Avengers are doing at that precise moment just blows my mind. Monica returns to some bad news, thinking that she’s been asleep for 20 minutes as pandemonium explodes all around her. This whole scene was superb.

As the episode continues more backstory is thrown in. Monica works for SWORD which her Mum, Maria, played a large part in making successful. Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department (SWORD) handles extraterrestrial affairs and works in conjunction with SHIELD. Monica is grounded though and this leads her to meet FBI Agent Jimmy Woo and her eventual involvement in Westview. Fantastic casting with Randall Park as Jimmy by the way. He’s another actor who never fails to shine.

The second big moment of the episode is the arrival of Darcy Lewis at the SWORD base to help with their investigations. This is another exciting MCU link and I love that other characters from different Marvel properties are beginning to make connections. Darcy comes in very useful and it’s mostly thanks to her that the dots start to connect. We need lots more of Darcy and Jimmy together.

In aim of not spoiling every little moment of excellence during episode 4 I’ll end the review by saying that a lot is explained which means that some of our theories are now a reality. There is one moment of shock that will really make you jump. This episode will cause a big shift in the tone of what’s to come and I think it was well placed in the run of the season. My only one complaint is that it just seemed so short but that mostly how engrossing it was. I’ve fallen in love with this show!
