Hawkeye – Episode 3 Review

By Robert Ernest (@thatRobster | www.xgeeks.co.uk)

This review contains very mild spoilers.

The main thought echoing through my head during this episode is why are we only now getting such good Clint content? This is a great character with so many complexities, mostly due to his antics during the five-year blip.

Echoes explore that period in time as we get to know Maya better. This also throws a spanner in the works with a conundrum over who really is the villain here. Learning that Maya is deaf and has a prosthetic leg makes this woman even more fierce and we see her struggles as a child and the impact Ronin’s rampage has had on her life. There are so many little seeds planted in these moments which allow the possibility of connections with the wider MCU.

One thing this show seems to be excelling in is presenting us with some great, subtle humour sprinkled around some really heartfelt moments. Clint really is struggling with his past and Kate’s sparkle might just be the antidote he needs at the moment. I think that she is starting to piece together parts of the puzzle though and Clint’s secret identity may not be a secret for much longer. Back in the present day, there are some fantastic scenes between Clint and Kate and Maya and her right-hand man, Kazi. There’s a superb car chase that is beautifully filmed which also shows off Clint’s awesome collection of arrows. It really was so much fun.

It’s crazy to think that we are already halfway through Hawkeye and it seems like there’s just so much more to come. Kate’s family mysteries aren’t revisited in this episode and it seems like we’re only scratching the surface with the Tracksuit Mafia. This was a fab episode that truly hooked me in.
