Hawkeye – Episode 5 Review

This review contains spoilers.

This episode echoed the tone of last week and was pretty much some gap-filling whilst preparing us for the season finale. Starting with Yelena, it’s revealed that she was amongst the half of the planet who disappeared during the blip. Man, I just love every moment Florence Pugh is on screen and I loved it even more when she was joined by Hailee Steinfeld. A game of cat and mouse between them was exciting but towards the end of the episode, it felt like something more is being set up.

Betrayal seemed to be the theme running throughout episode 5. Clint sets up a meet with Maya and it was a lot of fun getting to watch him as Ronin again. He takes his chance to reveal some secrets which put Kazi in the firing line. It also sets up a turning point for this mysterious mob boss we’ve been anticipating. Kate’s family dynamics take a turn and just when Eleanor appears to remove any doubt over her loyalties, Yelena firmly puts her back in the frame.

There’s another hugely exciting reveal right at the end of the episode which confirms all of our suspicions. A flash of an image shows Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin!!!! Linking the MCU to the Netflix Marvel tv-series is mega! They may not have always been consistently great but those actors deserved some recognition and once again, it’s mind-blowing to think of the possibilities this opens us up to. I’m so very excited about this.

We’re in for a good fight with the final episode, right? Alliances are sure to be made and there are still many loose ends to tie up. The watch … Eleanor … Clint and Maya … Clint and Yelena …

What a week to be a Marvel fan!
