Unlike the DCEU, Marvel has built up their characters individually before throwing them all together. It just works better. So it came as no surprise when Netflix announced a Defenders series to capitalise on their Marvel properties.
The Defenders sees Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up to save Hell’s Kitchen from a whole host of threats.
If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can check it out below.
As you can see, all the Defenders are shown, and we are also treated to glimpses of not only other returning characters but also new ones as well. Exciting times!
The music is used to perfection, this particular remix of Come As You Are by Nirvana (credit to Killing Joke) works seamlessly with the onscreen visuals. The progression builds along with the action until ultimately exploding in a range of fists and kicks.
As always, we take our top picks from the trailer and look at them more closely.
5 Things From The Trailer:
I Know A Guy
For a few years now, Claire Temple has been popping up in different shows talking a lawyer she knows. Now, these little teases have finally come to bear fruit. Here we have Jessica Jones, Misty Knight and Matt Murdock all in one scene. It’s a beautiful thing that’s for sure. In just this one scene, there are three different shows represented, seeing them all come together just feels so right. Extra credit for the beautifully framed shot too.
Let Them Fight
Ouch. Luke Cage and Danny Rand have a ‘man-off’ and both come out on…well, a draw? Danny takes a few hits when trying to use his martial arts, but soon as he charges that glowing fist Cage takes a big hit to the mush. Thankfully Claire is on hand to throw some water on the testosterone and set the boys right.
The Devil Wears Prada
Little is known about Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra, only that she is smart, calculated and not to be messed with. As the villain of the series, Weaver is a good shout for the main antagonist. We’ve had Fisk, Kilgrave, Cottonmouth and Meachum lead the other shows, but with the emergence of Madame Gao and Mariah Dillard, adding Alexandra into the mix sees a very refreshing change of direction.
Oh. My. Days. Did that just happen? Did we really see all our heroes taking part in the traditional hallways fight scene? It was brilliant, and that’s just the teaser. Can you imagine how good the whole thing is going to be from start to finish? We also get a glimpse of the resurrected Elektra fighting Murdock and co.
Good Food, Good Mood
It looks like the onscreen chemistry is already there with The Defenders. It doesn’t feel forced, and there are already signs that there will be plenty of injections of humour in the series, which can sometimes be found lacking in the solo shows.
