Ant-Man And The Wasp Trailer #1 Review

We’ve finally got our first look at Ant-Man And The Wasp and it looks like we are in for a real treat. Maybe a pez?

My initial reaction to the trailer is that they have taken everything that made the first film a success and added to it in suitable and sizable ways. The formula for the first film worked so you would be foolish to mess around with it too much. The most exciting aspect for me is the inclusion of The Wasp.

Evangeline Lilly was brilliant in the first movie and a little underused in parts. But this trailer made it very clear that she is going to have a much larger role. She looks so confident, so at ease with everything she has to deal with, while Scott is still ‘lucking his way’ through situations. Such a great contrast and dynamic.

If you haven’t done so already, you can watch the trailer below.

Now we don’t get a sense of an overall story, but that’s not the point of the first trailer. It ticked everything that a fan could want. It teased so much and left you feeling like there is so much more we are yet to see.

As always, we pick our best moments from the trailer and examine them a little further.

5 Things From The Trailer

Travel Light

YES! This really set the tone in terms of what was to come with the shrinking aspects. It also worked from a humour standpoint, which was a massive factor in the first film. The pure casualness of Pym just strolling up to suitcase-building and shooing off the pigeon, brilliant.

This chase looks insane! You feel this will be a big part of the movie. The way they utilise the technology in a real-world setting is extremely creative. They are really embracing this and have clearly cranked it up a gear in terms of imagination. I think we have only scratched the surface in terms of what they have planned for this movie.

Oh wow. Every time Evangeline Lilly was on screen in this trailer she owned it. She is going to be a massive part of this movie and with her wings and blasters she’s going to have a lot of amazing action sequences, you can just sense it. What we got in the trailer was very impressive and I’m hoping they have held some special things back for the movie. The dynamic between the two leads also works very well once again.

I Know A Guy…

As mentioned previously, humour was a major factor in the first film’s success. Tonally it was perfectly balanced. With a sequel, there is always a temptation to try and change a few things, but I’m glad that it appears they are going for the same humour. It’s dry and timed to perfection.

Did it have the gravitas of Thomas the Tank Engine? No. Was it still a really enjoyable moment? Yes. The fact they used a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser keeps that surreal edge that the movie used to great effect in the first film. Super-sizing objects to use in fight/chase scenes was always going to be the next step, and they have so much potential to work with.

So there you have it, our thoughts on the first Antman And The Wasp trailer. What did you think? Let us know in the comments.
