Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Live In Concert at Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham

“The climactic sixth episode of the Star Wars saga will be presented live in concert across the UK for the first time with a live symphony orchestra performing its iconic score live on the big screen.”

Performed by The Novello Orchestra, under the masterful conductor David Mahoney, Return of the Jedi Live In Concert was a truly captivating experience that brings the magic of Star Wars to life in front of your very eyes!

I’ll be honest, I knew it was going to be an emotional night for me, because the music of Star Wars just penetrates my soul and gets me right in the feels every time, without fail! So, it came as no surprise, that within seconds of the orchestra starting their performance, I got teary-eyed before the opening crawl even got to this first sentence! And this would not be the only time I was overcome with emotion during the evening, as all the iconic themes and scores were beautifully and passionately performed as the movie unfolded.

It was a rousing performance from start to finish, and while it was difficult not to get caught up watching the movie when I took the time to survey each individual musician’s performance, it really heightened the entire experience. The Novello Orchestra brought the stunning music of John Williams to life in a way I could never have imagined. It’s one thing to be moved by Williams’ brilliance on screen, but when it is performed so beautifully in front of you, it takes it to a whole new level! If you ever go to one of these performances, I encourage you to take the time to watch the different sections and individual musicians play and really appreciate their talent and how much coordination and passion it takes to perform in such a unique environment!

Finally, I just want to praise David Mahoney for taking the time to address the audience before the performance began. I have been to previous shows of this kind, and usually, they actively don’t encourage audience participation, at least not the ones I’ve been to. Yet Mahoney welcomed the passion of the audience to spill out and I think on the night and matched the passion of his incredibly talented performers!

This was easily one of the most incredible nights of my life, and I want to thank David Mahoney, The Novello Orchestra, and of course, John Williams, for making my dreams come true!
